2 Simple Ways to Style a T-Shirt (+ a Giveaway!)

I have recently asked by several people “how would you describe your style” – this is a hard question for me to answer. I would like think that I am “on trend” and try new things but I also love creating outfits that are easy, affordable and looks that you can duplicate at home because; well, that is real life. The majority of people out there are not going to just throw on this big ensemble every single day. Don’t get me wrong,  I love a good balloon sleeve top or an off the shoulder gingham dress but those two trends don’t always easily fit into your every day life of work, kids and errands. I try to use what is in my closet before buying something new and adding versatile pieces that will benefit me and my style in the long run. I also try to buy quality clothing as much as possible so it can last me wear after wear.

So, how would I describe my style?
If you have been following me for any period of time you can probably guess that I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal. But, with those simple pieces I love elevating them into multiple new outfits that can take you from day to night, work to play and simple to “Oh hey girl- you are looking gooooood”.

Speaking of style…I recently struck up a friendship with Maddie from http://cassidylou.com , another local blogger in the Grand Rapids area! She and I decided to collaborate and show how you can elevate a simple tee in two different ways. The t-shirt we chose to do it with is a t-shirt I get questions about EVERY time I wear it. Its the arch Grand Rapids tee from The Mitten State. You guys seriously love this t-shirt every time I wear it and post it on my instagram so we decided it was the perfect choice! We set our photoshoot on the iconic blue bridge as the backdrop to highlight our favorite city – Grand Rapids. At the end of this post there is something in it for you so be sure to check it out!

Maddie’s style is something I hope to emulate at one point in my life lol. She does not shy away from color, print or mixing prints/colors and still somehow makes it look effortless every time she wears them. Maddie decided to dress up her take on styling a t-shirt . Pairing her tee with a white eyelet skirt, simple wood watch to compliment her handbag and throwing some print in there with a tied scarf was perfection. The topper to this outfit where her orange lace-up wedges for the extra kick of color.

This whole outfit is so easy to do yourself! One style tip from Maddie that I am not trying to do myself is to not be afraid of print and color. Mix and match and have fun with your fashion!

Going back to being a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal (aka me)- I decided to stick to that and show how you can up your game with just adding a few pieces to a jeans and tee ensemble and still get the wow factor.

First, I want to say we didn’t not both plan on doing the t-shirt knot lol. I personally LOVE doing this new trend because you get the comfort of a t-shirt but the knot gives you more dimension and a little more shape. Highly recommend trying this next time you wear a tee. For summer I also love wearing my distressed jeans because it gives a causal vibe and creates more interest in your outfit. I also put on these PERFECT little red heels. These little numbers have the absolute perfect heel height to give you a little boost and dress up factor but not too high that its doing too much and making you look more dressed up that you want to be. Also, the color on them is so fun, bright, cheery and the perfect pop to any outfit.

The last piece that I added to this outfit to up my jeans and a tee are these super fun statement earrings from Lee & Birch. They are rainbow so they literally can go with anything and honestly the reason a chose that color. I have been adding them to A LOT of outfits lately.

Ok, so now you got your outfit inspo down on how to style this awesome t-shirt; now what?
Well, because the Mitten State is so awesome, they have decided to GIVE ONE OF OUR READERS THIS TEE!
